For a lot of people, pets aren’t just animals, they’re a part of the family. They love you, they’re always excited to see you and they don’t talk back, but that doesn’t mean every pet is perfect. Not only do they not help out with family chores, sometimes, they can be the biggest culprits to everyday messes.
There is good news. Pet messes are cleanable. Sure, some are a little tougher and might take a little more elbow grease to get out, but for the most part the messes are manageable.
One heads up, when your pet is still in the potty training phase it may be best to roll up your new area rug and put it in storage. But since those stains are inevitable, we’ve got some easy solutions to get rid of them.
- Urine: It doesn’t matter if you have a puppy or an anxious older pet, accidents are sure to happen. But cleanup can be fairly simple. First, take a paper towel and blot the accident area to soak up as much as you can. Be sure to not just push the urine around and create a larger cleanup area. Make a mixture of half parts water to half parts vinegar and pour it onto the stain. Continue to blot the area with a paper towel and after a few minutes, you’re stain free.
- Number Two: Sometimes making it out the door doesn’t happen in time. That doesn’t mean cleanup has to be tough. First, use a plastic bag to pick up as much of the poop as possible. Then, you’ll want to spray the infected area with disinfectant spray and blot with a paper towel. If it happened on carpet, be sure to use a spot cleaner to remove the stain. For either surface, vacuum to remove any tiny particles.
- Mud Stains: It might sound opposite of what you want to do, but the best first step is to let the mud dry. This will allow you to remove it a little easier. Vacuum the affected area, rolling over the area at least 10 times to get any loose dirt. Mix one teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and one cup of lukewarm water and dab the mixture into the area to pick up any dirt. Once the mud is completely gone dab with a clean paper towel to dry the area.
4.: There will be days you walk into a mess and you have no idea what caused it. If you’re not sure how they managed to stain something, blot any excess fluids and then sprinkle baking soda on the area. Create a mixture of half water and half vinegar and pour it over mixture. Let the area dry completely and rinse with water before blotting dry.
Always remember, there’s no stain too big to be forgiven with pet kisses.
