Clean Water, Every Time

In a 2002 study published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health, researchers from the University of Calgary took 76 samples of water from water bottles of elementary school students. They found that nearly two-thirds of the samples had bacterial levels that exceeded that of drinking water guidelines, which may have been the result of “the effect of bacterial regrowth in bottles that have remained at room temperature for an extended period,” researchers wrote in the study. For a safer approach to your family’s water bottles, read on.

Simple Solution

There are several effective methods to keep your water bottles cleaner and more hygienic. The easiest method is to put it through the dishwasher after every use. If you are hand-washing your bottle, or if you believe that your water bottle might not withstand a dishwasher cycle, you can clean it with warm soapy water, white vinegar or water bottle cleansing tablets.

Best Solution

The best form of protection against bacteria on your water bottle is getting one with built-in antimicrobial technology. Because the technology is built-in to the product during the manufacturing process, it will never wash off or wear away, protecting your water bottle from the growth of bacteria, for the lifetime of the product.
