If you wear a knee brace for an extended period of time, certain odors will begin to develop, making it very unpleasant to wear. We have some suggestions on how you can keep your knee brace smelling fresher for longer.

Simple Solution

For all non-metal type braces, there are a few natural ways to remove the smell. The first is to soak them in white vinegar. Fill your sink or tub with one cup of white vinegar and some cold water. Let your knee brace soak for about 15 to 30 minutes, then hang outside to dry. You could also try adding baking soda to the wash. Baking soda is naturally deodorizing. Place your knee brace in the washing machine and allow for the machine to become filled with water before adding in a half cup of baking soda. Another solution is to add the juice of one large lemon to the washing machine. The citric acid breaks down the oils in the materials, leaving them bacteria and scent free.

We all sweat when we work out. Unfortunately, sweat creates an ideal environment for bacteria to grow, which causes you and your sports brace to smell. Good news though, now you can buy sports braces with added built-in odor control or antimicrobial technology that can eliminate odors before they start! Check out Curad's line of products with built-in Microban® protection.
